Optical Performance Monitor
Optoplex Optical performance monitor (OPM) uses proprietary thin-film interference filter technology combined with a micro-actuator and high-speed electronics. Optical performance monitor is used to measure critical information data on optical transmission signals in DWDM networks for monitoring signal dynamics, determining system functionality, identifying performance change, and providing feedback for controlling network elements so as to optimize operational performance. In particular, Optoplex Optical performance monitor can automatically scan the C-, L- or C+L-band wavelength range and precisely measure channel wavelength and power. See the following schematic diagram for OPM working principle.

Bandwidth-Tunable Filters
Through cascading a low-pass tunable edge filter with a long-pass tunable edge filter, one can achieve a new type of bandwidth-tunable filter whose passband width is variable while its center wavelength is still tunable. With such a device, you can

3-Port ROADM / TOADM
Optoplex's Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) module, also known as Tunable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (TOADM), is based on a proprietary micro-optics and micro-actuator design, athermal packaging technology, and state-of-the-art thin-film coating. When receiving a stream of optical signals of a plurality of wavelengths from the Input-Port (IN), this 3-port ROADM device directs a selected channel to the Drop-Port (ADD/DROP) and the remaining channels to the Express-Port (EXP), as depicted in the figure below. This tunable feature can also be used for adding a channel, when the device is used in reverse. Cascading two ROADM modules, simultaneous add and drop functions can be achieved. Each single ROADM device is optimized to cover either C- or L-band wavelengths. The standard 100- or 200-GHz channel spacing ROADM products allow for single-channel drop. Customized banded-channel drop ROADMs are available upon request.

Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier
EDFA
Optoplex designed and produced high power single-mode and polarization-maintaining EDFA, which met MSA compatible requirements. C-band MSA EDFA Module with +23 dBm Output Power is Optoplex standard product. Optoplex designed Pre-EDFA provides more than 35dB gain with -40dBm input power. The Double-Cladding pumped EDFA produces 2W output power.

100Gb/s Coherent Receiver
The integrated 100-Gb/s DP-QPSK receiver incorporates two 90° optical hybrids with four pairs of balanced photodetector (PD) and four linear TIAs into a single butterfly package. Unlike other technologies in which the polarization beam splitter (PBS) and/or the power splitter (BS) are not included, Optoplex’s receiver includes both of them with the optical hybrids, PDs and the TIAs to offer a fully integrated solution which will benefit users in terms of completely removing fiber routing and the skew management. The integrated receivers work at the symbol rate up to 32GBaud/s.

2.5G DPSK Demodulator
Optoplex’s Optical DPSK Demodulator, also known as Delay Line Interferometer (DLI), converts phase modulation to amplitude modulation over the entire C+L band in support of data transmission rates of 2.5, 10 or 40 Gb/s. The DPSK demodulator is designed for phase modulated optical communication systems utilized in commercial, defense and space exploration markets. The device plays a key role in improving signal quality and performance to meet the expanding demand for higher data rates and more complex transmission formats within current and next generation systems without major capital expenditure. Optoplex’s DPSK Demodulator is based on a patented free-space optical design, which is compact, athermal and polarization-independent. Themeasured frequency drift over temperature is only ~0.02 GHz/°C for our standard passive device. Further, this DPSK Demodulator exhibits a total polarizationdependent phase shift of less than 2 degrees over the entire operating temperature range with a high extinction ratio. Optoplex’s DPSK Demodulators can be configured to be fully tunable, colorless tunable or purely passive. Dual-Rate DPSK Demodulator is also available.

DPSK Demodulator
Optical differential-phase shift keying (DPSK) provides a desired modulation format that offers high receiver sensitivity, high tolerance to major nonlinear effects in high-speed transmissions, and high tolerance to coherent crosstalk. In DPSK, data information is carried by the optical phase difference between adjacent bits. For direct detection of DPSK signal (by conventional intensity detectors), a DPSK demodulator is needed to convert the phase-coded signal into an intensity-coded signal.

Optoplex Optical channel monitor (OCM) uses proprietary thin-film interference filter technology combined with a micro-actuator and high-speed electronics. Optical channel monitor is used to measure critical information data on optical transmission signals in DWDM networks for monitoring signal dynamics, determining system functionality, identifying performance change, and providing feedback for controling network elements so as to optimize operational performance. In particular, Optoplex Optical channel monitor can automatically scan the C-, L- or C+L-band wavelength range and precisely measure channel wavelength, power, and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR). See the following schematic diagram for OCM working principle.

2x8 Coherent Mixer With Single-ended Photodetectors
This page defines the requirement of a special coherent receiver with 8 single-ended photodiode outputs, per customer request. The coherent mixer, consisting of two polarization-diversified 90deg optical hybrids, a polarizing beam splitter and a beam splitter, is exactly same as existing DP-QPSK coherent mixer, and therefore offering same optical performance.

40Gb/s DPSK Receivers
Targeting for the next-generation 40Gb/s system based on advanced optical differential phase shift keying (DPSK) demodulation, Optoplex’s 40Gb/s Integrated DPSK Receiver (DPSK Rx) demodulates an incoming DPSK optical signal into a pair of differentially (amplitude) modulated RF outputs at data rate up to 43Gb/s in a compact package. Phase modulated optical signals offer much better dispersion performance compared with traditional amplitude modulated counterparts because the carrier light stays on all the time so that the intensity-dependent nonlinear effects in the transmission link are avoided, resulting in longer transmission distances.

Balanced Photo-Receivers
Coherent detection has been found increasing applications in fiber sensing as well as in conventional RF and optical communications. In the past several years, coherent technology has been advanced dramatically in high-speed optical communications. With this, key parts and components (such as narrow linewidth lasers, optical hybrid, balanced photo-receivers and DSP, etc.) are commercially available and cost-effective for many applications beyond telecommunications.

2-Port Optical Tunable Filter
Optoplex's Tunable Optical Filter, also known as Optical Tunable Filter or Tunable Bandpass Filter, is an integrated module, consisting of micro optics and electronics. When receiving a stream of optical signals of a plurality of wavelengths from the Input-Port (IN), the 2-port tunable optical filter directs a selected channel to the Output-Port (OUT). The selected channel can be varied (tuned) within the operating wavelength (frequency) range by a remote command sent through the built-in control PCB and firmware.
