Gross Gamma Screening System

The Gross Gamma Screening system is intended for the rapid screening of urine samples for the presence of elevated radioactivity in a post-radiological event scenario. This system allows up to eight urine samples to be counted simultaneously in discretely shielded 3” x 3” NaI Well radiation detectors to quickly identify elevated radioactivity from personnel in the exposed population. This screening process provides critical information to Emergency Response Agencies and is accomplished with minimal operator training.

Contact Resistance Measurement System

The CRMS is a system designed to allow any user to measure the resistance of each set of relay contacts associated with the relay under test. The test system consists of a CONTACT RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT UNIT (CRMU), a MULTIPLE RELAY TEST RACK, as well as an interconnect CABLE ASSEMBLY. Either DC or AC energy to pick and drop relay coils under test for all contact measurements is supplied from the CRMU and easily interfaces with the Multiple Relay Test Rack. For additional and more thorough testing of relays an external relay tester can be interfaced to the Multiple Relay Test Rack to supply energy to the relay coil. It is recommended that the UTE Relay Tester With Timer/Counter (UTE Product # 15967-00) be utilized so the operator can take full advantage of the unique features it offers

Based on non-contact optical techniques, FilmTek tools simultaneously measure multiple-angle and multi-modal data to determine film thickness and refractive index. By measuring multiple angles of incidence, a wavelength shift is introduced between spectra collected at different angles. The wavelength shift between the spectra is only a function of the refractive index of the film and the angle difference between the spectra. By independently determining refractive index from a wavelength shift (as opposed to extracting index information from amplitude changes), FilmTek tools have best-in-class performance for film thickness and refractive index measurement. This level of performance allows FilmTek tools to address applications that otherwise may not be possible with more conventional ellipsometry or reflectometry methods.

Pulsed Laser Deposition

Is a versatile thin film deposition technique. A pulsed laser (~20 ns pulse width) rapidly evaporates a target material forming a thin film that retains target composition. This unique ability of stoichiometeric transfer of target composition into the film was realized first by the research team led by Dr. Venkatesan at Bell Communications Research, NJ, USA, nearly 30 years ago while depositing high temperature superconducting (YBa2Cu3O7) thin films. Since then, PLD has become the preferred deposition technique where ever thin films of complex material compositions are considered. Another unique feature of PLD is its ability for rapid prototyping of materials. The energy source (pulsed laser) being outside the deposition chamber, facilitates a large dynamic range of operating pressures (10-10 Torr to 500 Torr) during material synthesis. By controlling the deposition pressure and substrate temperature and using relatively small target sizes, a variety of atomically controlled nano-structures and interfaces can be prepared with unique functionalities.
