Reaction with water is rapid, producing heat and hydrofluoric acid. Hydrogen fluoride (HF) is used in manufacturing of refrigerants, herbicides, pharmaceuticals, high-octane gasoline, aluminum, plastics, electrical components, and fluorescent light bulbs, among others. Hydrogen fluoride (HF) is very soluble in water and is readily absorbed in the upper respiratory tract.
