The Benthos Directional Acoustic Transponder (DAT) is anextension to the Teledyne Benthos ATM-900 Series modem, which automatically estimates the azimuthal and vertical arrival angles of a message sent by a remote modem. The system is a modified ultra-short baseline (USBL) which uses a broadband component of a typical modem message to form estimates of arrival angle(s). While conventional USBL devices employ tonal signals, our appropriate processing of wide band signals provides far better combined range and arrival angle estimation, especially at low Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Our device offers a clear 360 degree field of view in azimuth, and an approximate vertical coverage spanning + 90º overhead to -50º below horizontal.

Dual polarized horn antennas are offered as both standard and custom models with rectangular waveguide interfaces for both horizontal and vertical ports. These dual polarized horn antennas support both linear and elliptical polarized waveforms. When the antenna receives a circular polarized waveform, equal amplitude linear polarized waveforms are output at both horizontal and vertical ports. When two equal amplitude linear polarized waveforms are input into the vertical and horizontal ports, the antenna will transmit a circular polarized waveform. The listed models offer 15 dB nominal gain and 33/28 degrees typical half power beamwidth at the center frequency of the band. They also exhibit 40 dB typical port isolation and 35 dB nominal cross polarization. These antennas cover full waveguide bandwidths within the frequency range of 8.2 to 110 GHz. In addition to the models listed below, models with 10, 20, 23 and 25 dB gain and other frequency bands are also available.

These directional couplers come in standard values of 30, 35, 40 and 50 dB with coupling tolerance of +/- 1 dB.The high power directional couplers have low insertion loss. Coupling flatness is maintained at +/- 1 dB or less among models. Most units hold a mainline VSWR of 1.2:1 or better throughout the operating frequency range. Pulsar Microwave has designs up to 2.5 kW input power. Typical directivity is 20 dB or more.Standard outlines are available with SMA or N type female connectors.
