Capacitive Proximity Sensors
Sometimes you need to know what is hidden beneath a surface. Behind a wall, for example, inside a storage container, inside a shipping container, or behind a cover. Capacitive proximity sensors are ideal for level and feed monitoring. From solid material, such as paper or wood, to granules or liquids, they can be relied upon to detect what is happening in the production process and during final inspection. Is there something behind that cover? Is the finished package really full? How much paint is still left in the tank? For capacitive proximity sensors, these are easy questions to answer. SICKs capacitive proximity sensors are never far from the action. Sensing ranges between 1 and 25 mm allow them to be used in nearly all installation situations, making them extremely adaptable for a wide range of applications. These sensors are also remarkably resistant to interference. Impurities, contamination, dust, and airborne spray particles have little effect on them, nor does electromagnetic interference. No wonder they are installed in a wide range of industries, such as food and automotive, or in storage and conveyor systems.

The SparkFun Photodetector Breakout is an updated version of the SparkFun Particle Sensor Breakout includes the MAX30101, a highly sensitive optical sensor and successor to the MAX30105 and MAX30102. The MAX30101 Breakout utilizes a photon detector to measure the amount of returning light that is reflected back from the LEDs. This is useful for various applications like particle (i.e. smoke) detection, proximity measurements, and even photoplethysmography. To make it even easier to use this breakout, all communication is enacted exclusively via I2C, utilizing our handy Qwiic system. However, we still have broken out 0.1" spaced pins in case you prefer to use a breadboard.

The Type RPD-2 Radio Frequency (RF) Proximity Detector is designed to detect and locate devices that radiate radio waves in the high frequency to low microwave frequency range. Such devices often include surveillance and “spy” equipment. The Type RPD-2, when used with the different sensors, will detect the emanation of the radio wave within a confined area, and then isolate its location to within approximately a square foot. The type RPD-2A may be used as an RF field strength indicator for antenna field strength measurements. RF transmitters used in close proximity to the human body must be evaluated against human Exposure standards which set basic restrictions for the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of RF energy by any part of the human body. This may include two-way radios, cellular phones, smartphones, spread spectrum, Bluetooth devices, wireless EFTPOS terminals and WLAN devices used in PDA/notebook/laptop/tablet computers. In Australia and Europe, virtually all devices exceeding the power threshold of 20mW (13dBm) and used in close proximity to the human body must comply with SAR requirements. There is no such blanket exemption in the USA and Canada where each product must be assessed against frequency/power level criteria.

Magneto-inductive Distance Sensors
mainSENSOR is based on an innovative measuring principle, which has been developed by Micro-Epsilon in order to combine the advantages of both inductive and magnetic sensors. Magneto-inductive sensors are frequently used as alternative to inductive sensors and proximity sensors in process automation, the packaging industry and in machine monitoring. Measuring the distance to a magnet which is fixed at the measurement object, the sensor outputs a continuous, linear signal. Loop-Powered Transmitters and Drivers

Loop-Powered Transmitters convert the output from proximity probes, seismic sensors, into a 4-20mA DC current, which is proportional to the input being measured. The transmitter converts the displacement or vibration signal to DC voltage and/or current for a DCS or PLC system. They control a 4-20mA current loop for a specified vibration range (ex. 0-5 mils peak-to-peak). The transmitters have a two-wire hook-up, powered solely by the loop current and have a power supply range of 15 to 36 volts.
