Ar Gas Cluster Ion Source
GCIS
The Kratos Ar Gas Cluster Ion Source (GCIS) is optimised for depth profiling organic materials in Arn+ cluster mode and inorganic materials in Ar+ monomer mode, dependent on the operating parameters defined by the user and the type of material to be profiled. In Arn+ ion cluster mode the ions can be accelerated up to a maximum of 20 keV. This enables the successful sputter depth profiling of the widest range of polymer materials to be undertaken. However, Arn+ cluster depth profiling has been shown to give very low sputter yields for inorganic materials. In order to retain the capability of generating depth profiles from this class of materials this ion source can also be operated in the more conventional Ar monomer (Ar+) mode.

The EAC-TAVS is a series of programmable high power AC voltage sources. Each system provides a three phase true sinewave output as standard. Each unit is built in a freestanding cabinet. The output frequency is adjustable in the range of 45 - 105Hz. Different frequency ranges are optional, with up to 805Hz possible. An RS-232 and CAN interface are provided as standard. The high resolution TFT front panel displays a host of measurement and setting functions. Besides standard models, other nominal power levels and voltages can be user specified. Single phase and bidirectional versions are available on request.

Retractable Sources
Veeco’s retractable sources address fundamental limitations of MBE, including source capacity, source removal for maintenance and system uptime. The retractable source allows an individual source to be withdrawn and isolated from the growth environment with the source gate valve and then removed without venting the entire chamber. The source can then be easily refilled with the same material or a new material before being remounted at standard positions to the growth module, allowing growths to continue with minimal interruption. This saves the user from re-qualifying new source to substrate distances and multiple weeks of downtime by avoiding the process of an entire system vent and bake.
