Flame Ionization Detector
A flame ionization detector converts a hydrocarbon gas concentration into an electrical signal. The flame is hydrogen fueled and burns in hydrocarbon free combustion air. Either side of the flame are two electrodes between which an electric field is generated by means of a polarization voltage. The sample is pre-mixed with the fuel gas and heated in the flame to a temperature at which the hydrocarbon molecules ‘crack’ and CH fragments appear. These CH fragments are oxidated by the oxygen in the combustion air resulting in the formation of CHO+ ions. The ion current then passes to the electrodes and the resulting current measured is proportional to the quantity of C atoms derived from organic compounds.The Thermo-FID features two separate microprocessor controlled pressure compensations to avoid any influence from environmental or sample conditions. In addition, the complete Thermo-FID range of analyzers are equipped with a flame trap that is used as a heated sample inlet filter. The measurement chamber and all material in contact with the sample gas are heated between 120°C and 200°C to avoid condensation.

Moisture Meters
Moisture can be found in any material. Even materials considered to be dry have a minor amount of moisture. An imbalance of moisture, whether it be excessive moisture or too little moisture, can cause problems ranging from undesired mold and bacteria growth to cracks and defects. To avoid a moisture imbalance, it is essential to monitor moisture content with a moisture meter that returns accurate and reliable measuring results. A moisture meter can measure the moisture content of everything from the air (relative humidity) to construction and building materials (concrete, wood) to biomass and agricultural products (hay, straw, grain, corn, beans, pellets) to solid waste (pulp, slurry) and beyond. Many moisture meter devices can also measure temperature. The moisture measurement range of each moisture meter varies depending on the model. Some moisture meter products take moisture measurements, store the moisture measurement data to an internal memory or SD cad, and allow the stored moisture measurement data to be transferred to a computer for detailed analysis by means of an evaluation software. When long term electro-chemical tests (>1000 hours) are run to monitor the cell degradation at the cathode for example, it is important to avoid any contaminant in the gas flow rate.Inconel 601 flange equipped with alumina housing and alumina tube to feed the gas to the electrode during long term test (>1000 h)Typical poisoning is coming from the chromium contained in the steel tubing. The volatile chromium species (Cr6+) will flow into the cathode (with the air) and thanks to the intake of electrons at the electrode, the chromium ion will transform to chromium oxide and be deposited at the cathode triple point. In such a case, the long term test kit is used. The Inconel 601 flange is equipped with an alumina housing (>96 % Al2O3) and the air (or other gas) is led through an alumina tube. The long term test kit is fully compatible with other functionalities proposed with the Open Flanges™ test Set-Up as the integrated steamer or the small pellet test kit. The long term test kit can be implemented on the fuel, on the air or on both sides.
